Sheepshead Bay High School
20 Year Reunion - Class of 1978
It's hard to believe
it's been over 20 years since we graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School, but alas, it's
true. On Saturday, July 18, 1998 we had our 20 year reunion at the LaGuardia Airport Marriott.
Yes, LaGuardia Airport, in Queens. Sheepshead Bay is not in Queens.
Don't ask. It was fascinating to see how we've all scattered over the years.
Some people moved out to Long Island and Westchester, and a whole bunch transplanted
themselves to New Jersey. At least one classmate came up from Washington DC, a few
came from California, and one snowbird flew north from Florida. We also had a few
people from the Cunningham family reunion who wandered in by accident, and stayed.
Although Richie, Potsie and the Fonz didn't make it, the gathering brought back memories
of happy days gone by.
It's interesting to note how people have changed over the years. The ladies all looked stunning. Were these classy looking, sophisticated ladies the same mousy girls who attended Sheepshead 20 years ago? Most of the guys changed too. Our waistlines expanded and our hairlines receded. Go figure. As a class, we've done well for ourselves. We have Doctors, Lawyers, Moms, Political Lobbiests, Teachers and Wall Street types among our graduates. One of our classmates is Lou Reed's manager. However, you know a class has really made it when it can boast a Mary Kay Cosmetics representative among its graduates. Suddenly Bruce's "Pink Cadillac" has a whole new meaning.
Here are a few pictures from the reunion for your viewing pleasure. If you folks have any more, please send them to me for inclusion on this page. All scanned images can be sent via e-mail. If you have snapshots, send them via regular mail and I'll scan them. Send duplicates or a self addressed, stamped envelope if you want them back. All pictures of the reunion are welcome, the more embarrassing the better. If you want to reach classmates via e-mail, try our new SBHS Alumni directory.
Any and all constructive suggestions for this site, or assistance in putting names to the faces is welcome.
In order to speed up the loading of this website, the pictures have been moved to separate sub-pages organized by their source. This suggestion came from Bruce Tuchman '67. If you have not already seen it, check out Bruce's "Unofficial Sheepshead Bay Web Site." While you're there, make sure to sign the guestbook.
The first set of pictures are, naturally, the ones taken by my lovely wife. As a proud graduate of Beach Channel HS, she refused to be photographed among Sheepshead Alumni. Click here for the Warantz Collection.
The next batch of pictures are courtesy of Alice Katz Jones, "the Lady in Red".
My sincere thanks for the donation. Click here for her
photographs.
Our third batch of pictures comes courtesy of Randy Haber
Schonfeld. Special thanks go out to Randy for identifying everybody in her pictures.
The next two pictures were contributed by Itta Nomkin. I don't know if she was being artsy, and using Black & White film, or if she just had an old scanner available. But then again, a picture is a picture, so click here to see her photos.
New addition 7/2/99 - As it turns out, Itta wasn't using Black & White film that day. A few months ago, Itta sent me a few color pictures from the reunion. I had my PC taken apart at the time, so I put the pictures away for safe keeping. BIG MISTAKE. Those pictures were so lost I thought I'd never find them. My sincere apologies to Itta for letting these wait for so long before getting on the page, but here they are. Click here for: Itta Nomkin - Take 2
New pictures have finally arrived, thanks to Bonnie Crystall Adler. Bonnie has been extremely diligent in correcting my spelling, and in keeping me updated with news of our classmates. For those who don't know, she is SBHS 78's very own Captain Planet, keeping our environment safe from terrible pesticides. (Or was that the Toxic Avenger?) Either way, thanks for the pictures and the public service.
New addition 10/30/2001 - I would never have thought it would be possible, but more pictures have suddenly arrived in the mail. Dana Lynn Spiegel has suddenly found this website and had a whole slew of pictures to add. It looked like she spent a lot of time with Alice Katz that night, since many of the pictures had the same people and poses, however I selected a few of the more unique ones to add here.
Final Update 10/19/2003 - Obviously, more than 5 years after the reunion, there won't be anymore pictures, so the contact information for sending them has been deleted. Sadly, there wasn't sufficient interest in having a formal 25th reunion, so it didn't happen. Thanks to everybody who contributed to this site over the years. It will remain up and running indefinitely.
